Hillsborough Castle NI Science Festival

An Evening of Drink and Drugs at Hillsborough Castle:- 16 February 2024, 19:00-22:00

For thousands of years people have partaken of a variety of state altering substances from tobacco, to alcohol through laudanum to cocaine. Join us for a fun evening of discussion and expert insight into legal highs through the ages with live music and drinks provided on arrival and at interval.

A Beginner's Guide to the Science of Compost:- 15 and 22 February 2024, 11:00 and 13:30

For beginner gardeners who want to know the science behind composting and keeping your soil healthy, the pH, texture and structure of the soil and soil organisms. This an outdoor event so please come dressed appropriately, but if wet we can relocate to a polytunnel. Be prepared to get your hands dirty and stuck into soil and compost.

Behind the Scenes Conservation Tour of Hillsborough Castle:- 21 and 22 February 2024, 14:30

Discover how we conserve and preserve furniture, paintings, silverware and clocks for display in the State Rooms of Hillsborough Castle. Led by Castle and Collections Manager David Orr, you will see the techniques used to care for our collections, visit behind the scenes rooms not on the regular tours and meet one of our highly skilled specialists.
